Celje is particularly friendly to children. Creative programs in kindergartens, boasting a long tradition and widespread reputation, promote creative growth and development of the cities youngest. The four kindergartens in Celje are attended by 74 percent of all children from the city.

Furthermore, children of Celje are the only ones in Slovenia with their own children's museum called the Herman's Den.

Ekorg, Celje's environment protection mascot, is in charge of the awareness of environment-related issues among the young and those young at heart who are joined in the Ekorg Club. Ekorg joins the children in education of what is environmentally sound and what is not; cheers for them in a TV quiz show; joins the children in various campaigns; shortly, it is a part of a mutual effort to preserve Celje's reputation of a "town where I want to live" – and to preserve the Earth as a planet that is friendly to life.
