Announcement of the International competition of art works
for young artists on the theme
EXPULSION and EMIGRATION - MY GRANDMOTHER AND GRANDFATHER ARE RELATING

The year 2005 is marked by 60th anniversary of returning of the expellees to their homes. In 1941, during the Second World War, 50.000 Slovenians were expelled from the southeast part of Slovenia, especially from the Posavje region. Many people also decided to emigrate. This was a genocidal act of Hitler's military machine and national cleansing was an ethnocidal act, what was used as a groundwork for populating an own nation in this part of the newly established Reich. People deported in Germany or elsewhere faced harsh assimilation with German nation. The suffering life of expellees affected four generations of Slovenian families. Many of them stayed for good in the foreign soil. In 1945 survivors returned to plundered and demolished homes. The love for their homes and native country was reflected in rebuilding homes in few years with great zeal and delight despite indescribable difficulties. Fields were ploughed over again and full of crops, and domestic animals revived in stables. Happy and cheerful children receiving the knowledge for life under the home roof attended schools. Expulsion and emigration remain also after sixty years a negative pattern for different occupiers, who still practise these genocidal and ethnocidal acts for their aggressive war actions. Whole nations are fleeing, are deported or displaced without their warm homes and fundamental civil rights. The events that occurred sixty years ago, the expulsion, emigration and reconstruction of homes after return; let your art works reflect mentioned events and show emotions by giving voice to your own feelings and touch the conscience of the world to shake off inhuman oppression of people. And at the same time remind us that national feeling is the greatest richness of a man that can't be broken. It can only be hurt with great pain. Ask your grandmothers and grandfathers about these events and present their memories with your pure childish soul and artistic imagination on paper. Many of you probably have experienced suffering and fear in your own way in the past or present, so you have fresh memories. Put down your memories on paper for us as a reminder.
These will be lively and direct testimonies reminding that these sins mustn't occur again.

So, go for it!
