Afghanistan Dreams, the artistic confession of Afghan children Two exhibitions under the honorary patronage of the president of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Danilo Türk were opened on the 7th of May in Celje. The exhibitions were opened by a world traveller Ms. Benka Pulko while the honorary speaker was the mayor of Municipality of Celje, Mr. Bojan Šrot. Andelija Đorđević with Vesna Cunjak and a dance group from Dance Forum Celje under the mentorship of Goga Stefanović performed in the cultural programme.
We opened an exhibition of awarded artworks at the 15th The World of Art magazine international competition on the theme “Ethnological dresses and folklore dances of my people” and awarded the winners of this competition with their deserved awards. Alongside the exhibition, we opened an exhibition of Afghan children that took part in an art workshop organized by the Institution for creative development of young people in execution of the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Teheran and with the help of international institutions operating in Iran and Afghanistan such as: Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNCHR), Iran, Afghanistan, Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), Iran, Afghanistan, Society for Protection of Working and Street Children (SPWSC), Iran, Association for Protection of Child Labourers (APCL), Iran, Women’s Activities & Social Services Association (WASSA), Afghanistan, Turkman Youth Society (TYS), Afghanistan, Orphanages for boys and girls in Heart, Afghanistan, Jabereil Girl’s School, Afghanistan and Pamchal Art Gallery, Afghanistan. This project was executed with the financial support of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (http://www.mzz.gov.si/en) and Municipality of Celje and the event drew quite a few diplomats of foreign countries and representatives of the Foreign and Defence Ministry in Slovenia and award winners from foreign countries to Celje. The award winner from Afghanistan, a 16 year old Farzaneh Akhondi from Pamchal Art Gallery in Herat also attended the ceremony and spent a week in Slovenia accompanied by her father and Ms. Maleko Ghoriani, the representative of Help, Germany. The Afghan children in their homeland and those living in exile in Iran were given the opportunity to present themselves outside the borders of Afghanistan in an organized manner for the first time after their 30 years of isolation due to the wars. A month later, on the 21st of June 2010, this exhibition of artworks created by Afghan refugee children in Teheran, Afghan children from Herat in Afghanistan and Iranian award winners was opened with the presence of many foreign Ambassadors at the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia, celebrating the Slovene Statehood day. On the occasion, Ms. Kristina Radej, Chargee d’ Affaires, presented the catalogue named Afghanistan Dreams, introducing the artworks created at the workshops and thanked the international organisations that helped her carry out this project. The guests were also greeted by the representative of the Office of the UN High Commisssioner for Refugees (UNCHR) in Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Carlos Zaccagnini de Ory, speaking on behalf of international organisations that took part in the project.
